The Power of Words MixTape

The Power of Words MixTape
by Mahoganee
Friends
Whether within our own thoughts, spoken or written,
words have the power to transform the world we live in.
Language is at its best when used to inspire others to find the best in themselves.

“There is music in words, and it can be heard you know,
by thinking.”
― E.L. Doctorow, Homer & Langley

“I have hated words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right.”
― Markus Zusak, The Book Thief
Words are pale shadows of forgotten names. As names have power, words have power. Words can light fires in the minds of men. Words can wring tears from the hardest hearts.”
― Patrick Rothfuss, The Name of the Wind
“There is something about words. In expert hands, manipulated deftly, they take you prisoner. Wind themselves around your limbs like spider silk, and when you are so enthralled you cannot move, they pierce your skin, enter your blood, numb your thoughts. Inside you they work their magic.”
Diane Setterfield, The Thirteenth Tale

We Support the

OG Cares Foundation recognizes that there are youth who are living without the resources necessary to become leaders in their communities and beyond. Every youth has the potential to become a leader but in order to be successful in the long term they need support and guidance from those who have experienced success.
OG Cares is going to bridge the gap between youth who believe that they have no future with the skills they need to be successful in life. We realize that there are youth throughout the globe who are experiencing these struggles, which is why our foundation has a global focus.
Our goal is to help as many youth, in as many countries, as possible and to make resources available to them to continue to build upon their leadership skills.

My GirlFriend's Business International in Atlanta

My Girlfriend’s Business International Mix and Mingle:
Atlanta Faces and Places

In a state where there are 15 Fortune 500 companies and one of the strongest military presences in the country, some allow the African American women in Georgia to be depicted as loud, arrogant, ignorant, and uninformed members of society. Television shows like Love and Hip-Hop Atlanta or Real Housewives of Atlanta do nothing but display this message across the world.

However, I have exciting news! There is positive networking taking place in Georgia. On Saturday, July 21, 2012 “My Girlfriend’s Business International” held a Mix and Mingle at Vintabella Boutique. The company was founded by Jillian Blackwell in 2009 when she began to realize that Christian women need a safe haven to pray and get support for their businesses. Their goal is to provide women of God from around the world with prayer support and genuine partnership that will help them succeed in business and gain confidence and prosperity along the way.

The mix and mingle was a huge success with attendees such as Dr. Teresa Hariston (Founder and publisher of Gospel Today Magazine), LaTosha Brown (Principle of Truth Speaks Consulting), Nina Akpan (Owner of Vintabella Boutique), Melanie Few Harrison (Owner of Results Inc. and Founder of the Super Bowl Gospel Celebration) and Alison Mills-Newman (Pastor, Actress, Writer, Producer and current new film "The Tree Widow")

Not only did the participants come to support a great cause, The Diaper Bank of Greater Atlanta, they also got a chance to network and connect. Jillian Blackwell (Founder and Chief of My Girlfriend’s Business International) had the group join in on an intro that would teach a great lesson. Each person had to give a 30 second introduction of themselves to a person across the room. First impressions don’t take long for you to leave a lasting one, so make it memorable and positive. Then the participants had to stand in a circle next to someone they introduced themselves to and had to introduce that person to the group. This made people realize to pay attention to what people are telling you because you never know when you will need the information for future use. As well, it taught a lesson to remember the people that you meet because they may become key players in your future success.

My Girlfriend’s Business International produced a wonderful event that left all the participants with a positive outlook on what the women in Georgia and around the world have to offer. And hopefully one day every woman can have a support system like the leaders at this event.
